Script analysis

1. Our film starts off with a gun shot in the climax of the drama with the suicide of the brother of the assassin.
2. The beginning scene will open with two gentlemen in a dim lit room walking towards each other connotating shady buisinesses. This leads to the Hit on the brother and the climatic conflict between brother and assassin.
3. The assassin "Joe" wants to let his brother go and find a way for him to escape and be free whereas the brother finds no other way and kills himself.
4. The Main character is introduced in the beginning walking into a dark lit room enamating shady buisiness and mystery surrounding the main characters job.
5. I am telling the audience everything by having clues such as the address and brief case as well as the suspicous actions of the Hitman to have the audience figure out "Joe's" job before the climax where all is revealed.
6. I am only adding in significant details that hint to important clues as well as excluding events that would need a more thorough explaining for the audience.

Title: The Hit

Log Line: An assassin is hired for a hit but experiences some conflicts with who he is trying to kill.

A dark room with a single ceiling lamp on. A man in a suit is sitting behind a desk and gets up nonchalantly. The mans face is in the shadows with a tint of light showing the mouth. Another man in a suit walks into the room with sunglasses on walking very haughtily. The man seems very gruff and dirty with a very serious look on his face he stops right in front of the the desk and stares at the man behind the desk. There is complete silence for a moment. The Man walks over slowly to the other man.

He greets the man with a very low monotone voice, with little emotion. Short syntax making conversation brief showing little relation with the man behind the desk and the main character. The man in the suit says, "hello". The man at the desk responds and calls him "Joe". The man at the desk goes into a safe in the desk and slides a folder across the desk. the gruff man opens the folder and slowly shifts through it looking at every sheet. The man at the desk then brings a large
leather briefcase from the closet and slides it across the table. The gruff man takes the case and opens it. the audience can not see what is in. The gruff man says "its been a pleasure" and leaves.

The gruff man is seen in his small apartment at his desk. He has a concentrated face and looks like he is working hard. He continues to search through the folder. He finds an address and sates it out loud.

The man is sneaking out on someone's porch. He peeks through the window to see the back of the man's he has been looking for. He is having an argument with his wife. They are screaming and yelling at each other. the women storms out. The man is left alone in his room and he sulks on the bed. The assassin then brakes in ready for his kill. The killer stops and realizes that the man is his brother. They argue and discuss why he is want dead. the target realizes there is nothing he can do to escape the mafia. He takes the killers gun and shoots himself in the head.

The body lays lifeless on the floor. His brother hanging over him. His phone rings. He answers it and says "its done".`

china town entrapment presentation reflection

Our research question of , How does entrapment characterize this film in the genre film noir? was thoroughly done allowing the main topic of our presentation to be the relationship of entrapment in film noir. This allows us to allude to examples in the movie, China Town as well as the characteristics of entrapment and the definition as a whole to our presentation. I do believe that our definition needed to be a little more centered on the topic of entrapments relationship to film noir, but overall the question was sufficient. Also our examples used to prove entrapment in the film noir piece, China Town could have been analyzed deeper with symbolism of the certain aspects involving walls or barriers to really show the presence of entrapment throughout the film. Also more examples, such as Mr. gitties at Mrs. Mulwray's house being boxed in by Noah cross or the scene where Gitties is driving through a farm being entraped by the rows of bushes while being chased around would help solidify our presentation. Then our connection to film noir was solid by creating slides to talk about the connection of entrapment as a whole to each individual example, excluding mine. Overall we were able to answer our question in each example towards the relation of film noir to entrapment. Finally the use of filmic language such as, mis en scene throughout our presentation as well as in our key terms was solid. We were able to describe the relation of key terms and filmic language in our examples providing a thorough understanding for the audience.

The design and presentation of our material was a little bland in the sense of color repetition and slide set up. However coloring the writing in a multitude of colors was sufficient enough to attract the audiences attention. Thus we succeeded in having the audience/classmates appreciate the data and interpretations over the background. Also speaking to our classmates would have been much easier with the help of notecards to prevent us from stumbling on some key ideas in our presentation. Overall My own concept of film noir in reference to China town has significantly improved, whether it be from my understanding of entrapment present in film noir to the filmic language, I have learned a considerable amount.

China town

The story is being told in the perspective of the detective, Mr. Getties. The narration is not a voice over and more of the first person perspective. Usually the narrator is the protagonist in the story, but in this story Mr. getties was on the edge/viewed as the antagonist. spectators allow suspense to the story as well as the feeling or way the main character is percieved throughout the story. Many times throughout the story we use information from our daily lives and from pictures shown to us in the movie, which imply ideas and thoughts. When Mr. Getties was telling the China town joke, the time period implied that china town was a lawless region, where social norms are no longer intact. Time is used throughout China town as a way to allow certain pieces of the mystery to come together, such as the dumping of water and the death of the chief enigineer. China town uses chronological order for events and fills in the narrative gaps using clues that are discovered during the movie. Definitely china town is the beginning of mystery films which are common today. China town shows the struggle between societies problem of knowledge can be dangerous as well as the boundaries of lawless zones and police conflicts. This story shows that sometimes humans desire to forget horrific events by simply walking away from them inorder to be free of the images.
